Short History
Galați Model United Nations has been honouring the reputation, as well as the academic profile of our city for over 20 years, during which stride, outstanding performances and educational advancements have been emboldening our students to break free from the tedious routine and test their debating abilities, along with their public speaking skills within Model United Nations conferences.
A couple of nerdy university students from Galați decided to bring this specific foreign initiative to Romania in 2003, a decision which commenced the rise of countless such conferences all across the country. It was truly a novel concept, one which would soon start to appeal to more and more students, this time, even younger.
Their marvelous initiative helped thousands of high-school pupils discover a hidden passion for geopolitics, international relations and international political strategy. It made countless youngsters realize that there is still hope within a society that is slowly failing the morals of humanity, that there are prospects of change provided forces gather and initiatives are being taken. It offered them a chance to consciously travel from one nation to another, to study the laws and regulations of places they have never dreamed before, to consider all political, economic, as well as social aspects of a matter before making a decision which could, ultimately, affect an entire living nation. It guided students towards empathy and knowledge. It, eventually, broadened their perspectives on what the world is, how it works and how it is being ruled. It compelled society to become less ignorant.
Students from all across the country travel endless hours to take part in Model United Nations conferences. Driven by a desire to conquer their inner fears and anxieties, adolescents embark trains alongside their friends and spend long hours inside crammed wagons researching, laughing and living life. They understand the need for an escape, a refuge from the mainstream week days into the world of imagination. The hope of achieving their goals, digging deep into foreign cultures and meeting new passionate people keeps them awake.
The National College Vasile Alecsandri has acknowledged the fact that Model United Nations constitute a unique chance for children to develop their intellectual maturity, in addition to critical thinking. Students, alongside devoted English teachers, have strenuously worked so as to organize qualitative and memorable conferences. They have made sure conditions are being provided, chairpersons are being trained and delegates are being cultivated. They have consistently sought to create the best learning environment for each and every person involved in the process of bringing the conference to life.
