Historical Security Council

Overview

The Security Council is one of the 6 main organs of the United Nations and has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It has 15 Members, and each Member has one vote. Under the Charter of the United Nations, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.

The Security Council takes the lead in determining whether a threat to the peace or an act of aggression exists. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.

The Historical Security Council will simulate events that have taken place in the past, offering its participants the opportunity to tackle complex conflicts by using their critical and strategic thinking in order to rewrite history.

Topic overview

Tensions escalated until June 1967, resulting in what later became known as the Six-Day War. Tensions escalated into a full-scale conflict following an intense diplomatic dispute involving neighboring countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Syria against Israel. A mere six days saw a dramatic shift as Israel initiated a preemptive attack and captured strategic locations such as the Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Golan Heights. However, besides the quick victory and its implications on the map, there were many other consequences that would not cease once the battles had ended.

In the Historical Security Council, delegates will have to handle one of the most complex conflicts in history, that resulted in decades of geopolitical tensions. Join us in the HSC committee of GalMUN 2026, in order to reshape the course of history!

Greetings, everyone!

My name is Constantin Olaru, but feel free to call me Costi, I am a junior at “Emil Racoviţă” Theoretical High School from Galați, and I am honoured return for a 3rd time at GalMUN, now as a chairperson of the Historical Security Council, alongside two good friends of mine, Amana and Vlad.

After attending MUN conferences for over two years, I have the opportunity to be part of the academic team of one of the most prestigious conferences in Galați.

Looking forward to seeing you all in May!

Vlad Frim

Hello! My name is Vlad and I’m a junior at George Coșbuc National Bilingual College. I’m very excited to be chairing the Historical Security Council, alongside Kosty and Amana.
I’m really happy to have the opportunity to chair this amazing committee, and I can’t wait to see you bring this topic to life! I wish you the best of luck and I hope you have fun immersing yourselves in the diplomatic proceedings of this time.

I’m really looking forward to this conference and I can’t wait to meet you all and see you debate!!

Amana-Mihaela Cristea

Greetings, prospective delegates!💗

My name is Amana, I am a junior at “Costache Negri” National College of Galati and it is my utmost pleasure to be chairing the Historical Security Council alongside my dear friends, Kosty and Vlad!! Quite ironically, the conference that opened my MUN journey as a delegate was the previous edition of GalMUN, where, again, ironically, I was a delegate in Kosty’s committee. Ever since that moment, a new passion stemmed in me, one that I apparently cannot harness. I find it that I have developed massively as a delegate, a progress which wouldn’t have occured but for the involvement of my chairs throughout time. As such, I want to serve as the kind of guide that tethers the new generation into making.

As for my interests outside of debate, I am a person who enjoys to partake in a panoply of activities from different domains, ranging from introspectional and social sciences such as literature and psychology to mathematics, chemistry and robotics. A fun fact about me would be that I am an avid consumer of criminology related content and absolutely endorse viewing diverse documentaries as long as they aim for a mystery core.

I cannot wait to meet all of you and see again some lovely dear faces!!
