The United Nations Economic and Social Council, hereinafter ECOSOC, is one of six principal organs of the United Nations responsible for coordinating the economic and social fields of the organization, specifically in regards to the fifteen specialized agencies, the eight functional commissions, and the five regional commissions under its jurisdiction.

Beyond simple coordination, ECOSOC’s primary purpose is to serve as the UN’s central forum for addressing the world’s most pressing economic, social, and environmental challenges. It translates high-level mandates, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), into actionable policy guidance for member states.

By advocating for corporate transparency, incentivizing ethical production, and supporting circular economy initiatives, the international community can realign the fashion industry with the goals of social justice and environmental preservation.
